Cultivating the Garden of Humanity

by Jenina Lepard

Overview

This workshop focused on the need for awareness within oneself of the potential for residual racism and to review what is expected of us as American Bahá’ís with regard to racial issues. The purpose of this workshop was to heighten awareness of the need to continuously cleanse our hearts from the destructive influence of residual prejudice, and to stimulate specific ideas for nurturing close relationships among the varied “flowers of humanity”.

A wide range of materials and quotations from the Bahá’í Writings were used to address this topic onsite. Additional materials were presented which would allow participants to continue this process in their home communities.

Two major references:
1. The Video “A Class Divided” from PBS Home Video
2. Bahá’í Core Curriculum Tool Kit for Race Unity Trainers (Available from the Bahá’í Distribution Service at 1-800-999-9019.)
